WA-2202 — Calculation of Heat Conduction Transfer Functions for Multi-Layer Slabs

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1971

Category:

Description

Prediction of the rate of heat flow, through walls and roofs made of several layers of different materials and subject to arbitrary variations of ambient conditions, is a problem of praytical importance in the design of buildings. The advent of digital computers has stimulated interest in the development of new design procedures that are both more accurate and more suitable for machine computation.

The present paper presents a further development of the resonse factor approach. It applies the z-transform to the problem of transient heat conduction. The resulting z-transfer functions are similar to the response factors, but they are much more economical in terms of computer memory, space and running time.
