The purpose of this technical committee report is toincrease awareness of the problem of nonextractablechlorides on refinery equipment and to document thelessons learned to date. Because information is still beingdeveloped by the industry, it is not possible to providedetailed descriptions of all “phantom chloride” sources ordefinitive solutions to prevent all potential problems. Thisreport lists sources determined to date, includes details ontest methods to measure the levels of chlorides, and listssolutions various refiners have used for their specificconditions.
